1873 Founders Society
1873 is the year Atlanta Humane Society was founded. After the Civil War, there was great concern in Atlanta about the hordes of starving and homeless dogs that roamed the streets. A few thoughtful Atlanta leaders came together and formed the Atlanta Humane Society to address the needs of these animals. In those early years, gifts of land, buildings, and modest cash contributions made by ladies auxiliary groups made all the difference with establishing a firm foundation that lives on today in the mission and vision of Atlanta Humane Society. By designating Atlanta Humane Society in your will or estate plans, you will be joining a legacy started by the founders.
